It’s a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a free, fascinating panel discussion featuring five talented local authors, as they dive into their passion for storytelling and reveal how they craft page-turning tales and unforgettable characters.

The discussion will cover the authors' experiences in the world of writing crime, thriller, and mystery fiction, including how they create compelling plots and memorable characters that keep readers on the edge of their seats.

This event is expected to be very popular, and seating will be on a first come, first served basis.

Featured Authors:

  • Carl Shuker is a Wellington-based health publications manager and novelist. His works include The Method Actors, a historical thriller-love story set in Tokyo, and The Mistake, a medical thriller now adapted into a film starring Elizabeth Banks. His latest novel, The Royal Free, continues his exploration of complex human stories.

  • Helen Vivienne Fletcher is a playwright, poet, and children's author. Known for her YA novel Broken Silence, a finalist for Best First Novel at the Ngaio Marsh Awards, she also contributed to Dark Deeds Down Under, a groundbreaking crime and thriller anthology.

  • Jennifer Lane is a Wellington-based short story writer and novelist. Her debut novel All Our Secrets won a Ngaio Marsh Award for Best First Novel, and her latest work, Miracle, won the 2024 Ngaio Marsh Award for Best Kids/YA.

  • Jennifer Palgrave aka LGBTQIA+ co-writing couple Lois Cox and Hilary Lapsley are the authors of a mystery series featuring Lauren Fraser, a retiree turned reluctant sleuth. Their latest novel Where the River Goes delves into the clash between intensive dairying and regenerative farming, set against a gripping mystery backdrop.
